A Strong Start to the Year: Team Wins from the First Week Back

This week at APT Legal

January can often feel like a slow restart after Christmas. This year, it has been anything but. Our first week back has been full of progress, support, and some genuinely great outcomes for both clients and the team.

We wanted to take a moment to reflect on a few of those wins.

Carrie’s Wins

Carrie started the year exactly how it should be started. By properly switching off over Christmas and New Year, she came back refreshed and ready to go.

One standout moment was meeting a probate client who had been attempting to complete their own Inheritance Tax forms. After reviewing the situation, Carrie was able to save the client over £10,000 in IHT. That outcome alone made a huge difference to the estate, and as a result, the client has now instructed us to handle the probate process as well.

On top of that, the team made it through the first week back feeling ahead of schedule, which is never a bad place to be in January.

Deb’s Wins

Deb’s focus over the festive period was firmly on people.

She supported a client from a previous company whose father had passed away suddenly. By helping them track down the details needed to retrieve the Will and talking them through the first stages of the admin that follows a death, Deb made a difficult situation feel far less overwhelming. A big thank you also goes to Sam Featherstone for responding quickly and helping make that possible.

Deb also spent time helping clients ensure their mortgages were properly protected, giving families peace of mind that their homes would be secure if the unexpected happened. As Deb put it, they did not know what they did not know.

Away from client work, she also took the opportunity to organise her entire office over Christmas. Starting the year with a clear desk and a clear head can make all the difference.

Meg’s Wins

Meg used the start of the year to clear the decks and move things forward.

She managed to get a number of overdue signings completed and booked in, helping keep important matters moving. On top of that, she secured new client bookings off the back of local recommendations, which is always a great sign that the work being done is being noticed and valued.

Lindsey’s Wins

Lindsey focused on momentum and teamwork.

She got fully caught up after the Christmas break, supported Carrie with probate matters, and successfully closed a client file that had been ongoing since 2024. Bringing long running matters to completion is a win for everyone involved, especially the client.

Why These Wins Matter

None of these wins are about big announcements or flashy headlines. They are about doing the right thing, helping people at difficult moments, supporting each other as a team, and starting the year with intent.

If this first week is anything to go by, 2026 is already off to a strong and positive start.
